EDIT

I've had more responses than I expected! I'm leaving this up because it felt weird to delete it, but I won't be interviewing anyone else right now.

About Me

Hi, I'm Travis. I'm a software engineer and I'm founding a tech startup. I learned to code on my own and I've worked at Silicon Valley tech companies.

What I'm Offering

I've made this syllabus. It should take you from knowing almost nothing to making simple web apps. As you go along in the syllabus, we'll meet in a video call for one hour twice a week.

Why?

After all the help I've gotten, I'd like to give something back. I've applied to Start-Up Chile, so I'd especially like to do something for a Chilean. And if things go well, it might make sense to hire you for the startup.

About You

I'm looking for someone who is intelligent, self-driven and wants to do programming as a career. Here are some hard requirements:

Completed secondary school or equivalent

A university degree doesn't hurt, but it isn't necessary. I don't have one.

Know the basics of Python

You'll need to know how to code a little bit up front. How else can you know you want to do this full time? It's not like deciding to be a pilot, where you'd have to find a plane to try it out.

If you have zero knowledge, you should be able to learn to this skill level in one day. In our first meeting, I'll ask you to solve a coding problem on your own computer that's about as hard as this one.

Fluent English

My Spanish isn't good enough for training someone. All of the course materials are in English.

Full time for 3 months

You'll need at least 30 hours a week available for studying and should plan on 3 months.

Remote set-up

You'll need a computer, decent internet, and a webcam.

Questions and Answers

Is this an internship?

No, not in the way most people mean. You won't be doing any work for the company. The entire focus is just on you learning to code. "Apprenticeship" is more accurate.

Do I get paid?

No. This isn't a job, so there's no pay. There's also no stipend.

Does it cost anything?

No. Almost all of the assignments in the syllabus are free. I'll pay for the ones that aren't. I'm not charging for my time.
