I am traveling on business this week and had access to the lounge in my hotel. I was the only one there yesterday afternoon, so the attendant chatted me up.
When he asked if I had kids, he was shocked. He didn't expect "no" as an answer.
I explained that children just weren't for me, and he had the revelation that he did not know anyone who didn't have children. He clearly never considered that a childfree life was even an option.
It was a respectful conversation, so I am not using the "rant" flair.
I am hopeful I helped one person realize that not everyone wants children. That itβs a valid life choice. And if a young person in his life chooses a childfree life, maybe he'll remember the happy, accomplished woman he met, who had a fulfilling life without kids, and show some support for that young person's life choices.
