I broke up with my ex a while ago because of differing views on children. My mom did not believe we would break up because she thought I would change my mind until after we broke up. I still believe she thinks I will change my mind about children.
Anyway, after we broke up, me, mom and my 6 year old brother went traveling together. As she is a solo parent to my brother I think she finds great relief when I am with her as I can take some responsibility for him. Which I think is very stressful as he has no situational awareness. He could run straight into people, or into the street, which I felt like I had to stop from happening. Any time we had where we could sit down and talk, he would quickly bore off and either ask for candy or get mad over something.
At the end of the trip she asked me about why I do not want children. "Hasn't he been wonderful this weekend?", "Isn't he smart?", "What are you going to do when you get older?". Yeah, sure it must have been wonderful for mom with me taking responsibility of off her. For me? Not so much.
