Boss tried to guilt me for taking time off of work
Post Body

I took some time off of work (4 days) for personal reasons that I really don't feel like explaining. We are short staffed (which isn't my problem) and I've been working 50 hour weeks. I barely have time each week to do laundry. My boss approaches me and this convo ensues.

Boss: you're asking for a lot of time off imthatmermaid.

Me: yeah I have things that I need to take care of and I need a few days to do it.

Boss: you don't even have kids why do you need time off?

Me: that's absolutely none of your business, I have worked for the vacation time that I am using and I'm entitled to it. Just because I don't have kids doesn't mean that I don't have a life and things that I need to take care of.

Boss: (He looks surprised that I stood up to him and starts to get condescending) oh I'm sorry did I hurt your feelings imthatmermaid?

Me: (with a big smile on my face) it takes a lot more than that to hurt my feelings. Me not having kids has nothing to do with any conversation that we will ever have and I would appreciate that not ever being brought up again.

Boss: have fun on your vacation

Me: This isn't anything close to a vacation but just so you're aware I'll be taking a real one very soon and far away for more than a week.

He walked into his office and slammed the door. I do my job very well, the words "you are my best employee" have come out of his mouth on several occasions, and I've only been at this job for a year. I think I'm going to be looking for another job very very soon.
