Many if not most people here have experienced backlash for their decision to not have children. Coworkers, family, friends, and everyone else feels the need to poke their head into our business. The constant barrage of âyouâll change your mindâ and âyouâll never experience true joyâ never ceases.
So imagine this: One day you decide to have kids. All of the criticism disappears, your cohorts rejoice and now you are a parent. You are now accepted by others... or are you?
Martha in the nearby cubicle thinks you are lazy because you havenât built a crib. Tom thinks you are defiling the sacredness of life because you arenât raising your kid to his religion. Jennifer is appalled that you feed your child meat. Everyone and their dog is now telling you, again, how to not only live your life, but also your childâs.
On and on and on... whining, complaining, fighting, criticizing. These things are not unique to.. well anything. No matter what you do, some nearby âholier than thouâ person will have an opinion.
Take solace in knowing that we will always be criticized. Itâs human nature, and being child free is not the source for all criticism - just another way for humans to be human. We found a phenomenal lifestyle that very few humans have ever had the chance to have. Embrace it! Enjoy your freedom, your peace, and your soft little fur babies. We have it good :)
