I've heard there is much need for volunteers (called Guest Escorts) to offer support, protection, and just plain old company to those seeking an abortion. I've been pretty fixed on the idea (even wrote a short story inspired by the idea), and I'm hoping some of you have experiences to share. I'm just trying to decide if this is something I can do or even if I'd be the right person to do so. I've recently lost my job and am looking to volunteer some of my time to those in need.

A bit about me: approx 6', 205lbs, so somewhat big guy protection-wise, and I'm in pretty good shape with some tattoos and long hair. I know this makes me look tough, and perhaps that judgment could serve to protect those who need that. I am a Buddhist, and this sort of direct compassion for another to ease their suffering appeals to me much. I'm also married and kind overall.

TLDR: Have you volunteered as a guest escort at Planned Parenthood before? What was your experience like?

edit: They're also called "Security Escorts;" if that's not illustrative enough of the need, I don't know what is.
