Measles outbreak at Disneyland. [small rant]

Post Body

Although I think it's important to add that many people who visit Disneyland are from different countries, there is no doubt that the anti-vax movement is becoming incredibly dangerous.

I personally have two family friends (two individuals with their own family) on my Facebook who are adamant anti-vaxxers. They vehemently distrust doctors and most medication, and rely on "essential oils" and "natural remedies" for their children's health. One of the children had pneumonia in December. Pneumonia- that's not something to mess around with. They both think that measles, whooping cough, etc. are diseases that aren't that scary. Both mothers have admitted that they would rather their children endure the measles than risk the possible "side effects" of getting the vaccine.

What scares me the most about the anti-vax and anti-Western medicine movements is that there are people think that they know better than their doctor. Parents who think that because they can use Google, they can not only diagnose their child, but also prescribe whatever "natural" remedy they think will cure the diagnosis.

"It's MY child, I know what is best for him!"

Do you have a medical degree? No? Then you don't know what is best for your child.
