Bisalp today. I did have a setback with insurance copay being asked for at check-in, so read up if you want to know how I went about this. Spoiler: I did NOT have to pay it.

Hey y'all, I had my bisalp today. Everyone's posts here were the reason I looked into this and got it done, so genuinely, thanks for being a great community sharing useful info and support. Some info to read up if you are interested:

Day before surgery: No bowel prep but cutout time for food and liquids was 11 pm the night prior, for surgery at 7-8am. I stopped eating well before that at 1:30 pm (indulged on creamy pasta with shrimp) and last drink at 9 pm.

Day of surgery - Check in process and insurance ordeal: Ok, this part sucked. Upon check in, the desk lady (who was super nice and polite by the way) let me know there was a several thousand dollars copay (I have an HSA High Deductible plan with my insurance). I said no, and explained I already got 2 letters from my insurance (from their online message center, which I downloaded as PDFs) to make them note 1) my provider and location were IN network, and 2) The procedure (laparoscopic bilateral salpingectomy with procedure code (CPT) 58661) was covered in FULL per ACA when using that code and also when using the associated diagnosis code (this one they did NOT specify). I shared this with her and she made some calls. I did get these two pieces of information in writing, which I felt great about at the time and certainly came in handy today, so DO get as much as you can in writing from your insurance! Even the Dr's office lady confirmed with me earlier in the week she had talked to them and confirmed I'm good and covered. So... You can imagine my surprise of this being brought up on surgery day; what an awful taste this left in my mouth. Check in lady asked if I wanted to start processing anyway. I said no, and that I needed the copay situation to be clarified and rectified as I know how insurance companies work and how they will give you hell to give you your money back through an appeal once you've paid it. I stood firm and was quite hopeless about getting this done today but I held tight and sat and at least gave some urine sample while the check in lady and her manager made some calls. The Dr and anesthesiologist came out to see me in the lobby and see how I was doing, and acted very empathetic and said they usually don't have issues with this insurance but they understand the frustration and if I don't feel comfortable getting the prep started and that they'd check with the staff on progress. Finally 30 ish minutes later I hear back that they contacted the insurance and confirmed there is no copay and they could process me. I felt a bit of a miracle moment, cause I was totally hopeless. BTW if you work in the field or experienced this feel free to chime in on was at fault there for the disconnect.

Day of surgery - Surgery experience: The entire staff was very nice and made me feel comfortable. Great anesthesiologist and Dr, but also lovely compassionate nurses that were very understanding when I started shaking before and after surgery. They couldn't get to the vein properly on my left hand and did it again on the right, which made me cry a little. They held my hand (aw). Once I was in the OR and put the mask on me it was lights out, then apparently I woke up after an hour, after post-op. I woke up, so I'll take the win. Had only two scars; belly button for laparoscope, which I cannot tell honestly, and one on my right side, about less than an inch but that's "fresh" so I certainly expect shrinkage over time. Looking a bit rough now (not a perfect line) probably because of the vlood residue and glue.

Day of surgery - Post op feeling: The worst symptoms the rest of the day were the throat discomfort (itchy and a bit painful) for which I recommend Mucinex cough drops as they have a mild numbing agent, but I also sucked on Wherter's caramel candy and had yogurt frozen pops. That part has improved by tonight. And, the gas in my ribcage and upper back, for which I am taking Gas X but not sure it will help as much on these areas. It makes it a bit uncomfortable and painful to take deep breaths. Walking is also uncomfortable and unintentionally slouchy. I was given ibuprofen and Vicodin but will try to use only as needed. No bleeding down "there". No incision pain or really minimal on occasion. No nausea. No red flag symptoms either (fever, swelling, etc). Laying down generally feels more comfortable and relieves the pain mentioned, but been walking a little around the house and elevating my legs as recommended.

Can't wait to feel better so I can do many things I have planned, but taking it easy. Good luck to all of you also pursuing this procedure.
