Hen Pulled Out Her Feathers

Post Body
It appears that my hen pulled out a lot of the feathers on her underside. I found bits of shell and yolk embedded in her feathers. Her skin looked very red and painful. I put her in about 3 inches of warm water and tried to gently work out the egg from her feathers. I put her inside for the night. Was this an okay thing to do? Will this hurt her more?
