The (not) prodigal daughter returns after vacillating back and forth between here and everywhere. For better or for worse, I find Chicago to be one of the last real cities in America. I’ll spare you the Anthony Bourdain quotes about the city that we’ve all heard recited ad nauseum, but he shares my sentiments for it.

After a long period of self imposed exile, I can admit I’m lonely. My friends are all scattered across the country and I work from home in tech so it doesn’t afford me a lot of organic social interaction and my dog is my main source of company. As wonderful and sweet as she is her main pastimes are public urination, sleeping, and Lambchop.

I am a nulliparous Asian woman flatteringly described as inspired by Peter Paul Rubens but perhaps more accurately midsize. Feminine and always looking for an occasion to dress up for, usually in a skirt and heels. And at 5’6”, you’ll probably still be taller than me.

Something of a misanthropic nihilist who wants to embrace absurdity and become a hedonist. One of my friends has said that my superpower is knowing just enough about anything to hold a casual conversation on the topic. That skill translates to being great at the crossword and a good trivia teammate. I will beg you to let me pick the most foul team name possible.

I love jazz, classical, and opera but I’m also seeing Azealia Banks in October and Girls by the Dare has been my summer anthem. I like spectating F1, basketball, and soccer, and I also enjoy girly hobbies. A bit of a gourmand, I enjoy fine dining and simpler fare as long as it’s good, I’m a great cook (read: I watched S1 of the Bear and went ‘he’s so me’), and an adequate baker. I enjoy traveling and my pup rides shotgun with the window rolled down as much as possible. Lately we’ve been working on her doggy paddle at the beach to mild improvement.

After work I’m usually reading (mainly classics, boring I know) or enjoying good cinema and television as well as the delightfully terrible- Too Hot to Handle is the current favorite with an edible and Negroni.

My interests are a broad spectrum, if I haven’t done it I’m willing to try it. You want to take molly and go see Shen Yun? Meander around the stacks at the Wicker Park Barnes and Noble and compare Dostoyevsky translations? Get blitzed at the last Rainforest Cafe in the state? Navel gaze about the past and chain smoke while waiting in line at Jim’s Original? I’m game.

I want to surround my life with beauty, joy, and novelty in all forms possible, there’s no meaning to it otherwise. Come join me.
