Looking for good chess theory books for beginners

Post Body
Hi everyone! I am an ex-pro gamer getting into chess to scratch that competitive itch. I got Bobby Fischer teaches chess and while it is helpful, it's just a tactics workbook and doesn't really have much theory. What books would be best for a beginner learning theory? Something along the lines of Doyle Brunson's poker book, if that exists.
Thanks all! This game's insanely deep and I'm excited to learn more.
