After the last game of the WCC ended, I saw a lot of comments and hate for Ding, talking about how Rf2 was a blunder not worthy of a world champion.
I was re-watching many of the streams today, and I realised that this wasn't the case- in chess24 stream, Danya had talked about Rf2 as a candidate move a few minutes prior to it being played. In Hikaru's stream as well, he had taken a few moments to realise the blunder. Other streams like Chessbase India etc were celebrating after the eval bar went up, but I'm not really sure if they knew the actual line until they checked the suggested engine moves.
Even Gukesh in the press conference said he didn't immediately see it, and had another move in mind.
My point being- I don't think any of the streamers, save Hikaru would've seen it in real time over the board without the Eval Bar. And facing time pressure, it seemed like a logical move to make. It would be nice if the world were kinder to Ding without scrutinizing his play under the lens of the eval bar. He is truly a deserved World Champion.
