Mass spectrometers in industry analytical labs

For chemists who work and have industrial, commercial, or medical analytical laboratory experience are higher resolution MS more commonly used ( ex: triple-quad MS, TOF, MALDI) than a single quad MS for routine analyses and method development? I would like know what is generally the trend on the specific types of mass spectrometers currently used for all types of analyses.
