Beginning the process of standardizing using the butterfly pea flower as a pH indicator in my home lab.
Post Body

I had a bunch of expired butterfly pea flower, which has an interesting side effect of being an edible pH indicator with a very strong colour change. I'm thinking of a future project where I try to isolate and concentrate the cyanin responsible.

First run is 2g of the powdered flower in 200ml distilled water, I was amazed at how dark the infusion was coloured from just stirring at room temperature.

To make sure I get the most dye out of the powder though, I'm gonna reflux it for a while on heat while I eat dinner. More posts to come
