For context: Its been a while since I studied chem but still love to poke around sometimes, So yesterday there was a question about:
"A hydrocarbon was reacted with excess oxygen and it produced 1.00 mole of Water and 1.00 mole of Carbon(iv)Oxide. What was the mass of the hydrocarbon reacted?"
The answer was supposed to be 18.0g of hydro carbon when I checked the answer sheet but it still bugs me that they basically only added the (CxHy) forcefully to get the answer after attempting for a good bit of time. So is CH8 a valid answer if its supposed to be a hydrocarbon?
Also: Sorry if the post is long.
