Hey, i'm studying for an exam wich is my final one for my studies, after passing this i can start writing my bachelor thesis. Because of this i'm desperately trying to solve all exercises. This is the very last one but it doesn't fit in any scheme of the other exercises. I would be very happy if someone could help me because i have the feeling, that this task might be relevant in the exam.
"3. proflavin has an antibacterial effect by inhibiting DNA biosynthesis The rate constants for dimerization (2 Proflavin = dimer) at 25 °C are k1 = 8.2 x 108 L mol-1 s-1 for the forward reaction and k2 = 2.0 x 10-6 s-1 for the reverse reaction. What is the value of the equilibrium constant and the free reaction enthalpy? How high must the dimer concentration be if proflavin is pretreated with 0.1 [mol/L]?"
As u can see, the unit of the forward constant is different from k2. And i'm sure i need a concentration for the calculation of the equilibrium constant. btw the enthalpy stuff is not really necessary because the theme of the exam is only kinetics, but i would be interested in the solution too.
