Hey y'all,
Two weeks ago I concluded a campaign of Hunter: The Vigil that lasted just a hair over a year.
While im unsure I will ever be apart of another HtV campaign but would like to recycle a character I fell in love with over the course of the campaign.
A quick aside as I realize that HtV is not exactly the most played TRPG. HtV can best be described as a real world (present earth) setting except werewolves and vampires and the such are very real that is heavy w/ the RPing.
Its a cool system, especially if you love d10s.
Anyways, here is Manny:
Name: Emanuel "Manny" Espinoza
Occupation: none listed (But he's a damn good crook)
Description: Mid-thirty's Male. Fair skinned, brown eyed with black hair. 5'10'' aprox: 250lb
Will often don dark clothes, He has specialized Kevlar clothing that is indistinguishable from a regular button down dress shirt courtesy of Project: Valkyrie. He never wanted to stick out in crowds so the thinking was button down without tie sometimes with jacket is usually enough to blend in most social circles.
hair: Think HBO show Sr. Avila's Sr. Avila himself(in particular, final season). Its slicked back, tight. As far as facial hair, at most he'll have a scruff
Other notable features: If the job requires, above all else including the gadgets provided by Project: Valkyrie, Manny would carry a Ruger mark II customized to his liking with the most visually discernible addition of a suppressor.
Backstory:
No siblings. Father left the family at a young age to be involved with the "Cabale" (International organized crime outfit) . Mom and character lived a tough life. They were really close but when Manny started doing odd jobs which turned into outright breaking the law, it strained their relationship. At the age of 20, Manny needed his mother to lie about where he was to people who were looking for him (Street toughs). She did, like any good mother would. But that was it for her, she wanted the old Manny not what her son became so she told him to leave and never come back unless he becomes an honest man. Manny hasn’t seen his mom since that day. Manny has a working relationship with his father but that gets revisited later.
So before getting swooped up in Project: Adamski (Secret organization in the game world), Manny was a man with an insane success record. Manny started off as a real Robinhood as anyone he stole from was richer than him and he was the poorest person he knew so he gladly accepted the spoils. After all, he had too much on the line to fail, it was all or nothing now. Manny was through and through a con-man. A pickpocket, sneaking, silver-tongued confidence man. After moving away from his home town in south Texas, he settled in California. It was there that he had already honed his skill and was doing a pretty good job of getting by. But that was all Manny was doing, getting by. Maybe it was a stroke of luck but Manny was one day approached by his fence in south east LA that had always been pretty good with him.
Toni T, the owner of a pretty unnoticeable pawnshop, went from fence to handler as he noticed the potential in Manny. In time, taking Manny into his mid twenties, he had a really good thing going. He was apart of a crew that was pretty consistent and good at what they did. The usual team consisted of Kennith, TJ (short for Thaddeus) and Juli. Kennith, was a one man army according to Manny. Kennith is a Vietnam vet that you’d swore never left the war. The guy was stoic and did only the absolute necessary. It took some time, but Kennith and Manny finally took to each other and Manny under Kennith’s wing learned a thing or two from Kennith about using firearms and getting in a silent shot. TJ on the other hand was an absolute hothead and that drove Manny wild. TJ, the designated driver, always busted Manny’s chops for never getting his license. In Manny’s Head, he knew that was the only low hanging fruit he’d let up on. Manny and TJ were close in age so they were pretty competitive and made sure their worth was known to the group. Lastly, was Juli, she was two years younger than Manny and the niece of Toni T. Manny’s relationship with Juli was most complicated given that he always had a thing for her. See, here’s the thing, as a group they all had their “duties” Juli and Manny’s duties overlapped the most. So they often worked closely together for their operations. They fundamentally worked as polar opposites and somehow that worked, in fact Manny thought the way Juli worked made what they did look like art. Whether it be a lift or a hit, and however Juli fit in to the job, she did do so elegantly. Manny always felt that he preyed on people’s emotions just way too much. Yet Juli came across as so trust-able
In Manny’s late twenties, on a job that required him to work satellite, he was caught by some pretty strange cops. He was instructed to act out his part of the crew’s job as to not tip them off. So he did. He was guaranteed that his team, which the boys in blue seemed to know, would be left alone if he cooperated, so he did. Little did Manny know that these guys were much more than ol' boys in blue. They were part of a clandestine organization known amongst few called Valkyrie Project: Adamski. You see, project Adamski was very Interested in professional Bull Sh*tters. They had a mission and that mission was to spread misinformation. They had a vision for Manny and no one but them knew it at the time. As they sat Manny down and told him what was really going on. By the end of the conversation, Manny learned quite a bit. First of all, the father that he thought was long lost was very much around. Apparently, he became the head of an international crime syndicate. Cabale, had two divisions, one in Canada and in Mexico, Manny’s father ran the Mexico division.
In short the Mexico division was in charge of all smuggling coordination and the Canadian branch handled precise American terror attacks to grossly manipulate the markets. The history of this parternship goes back much further than adamski’s governmental reach. But Adamski wanted part of the action, they see that Cabale can deep influence in The States and wants to infect it from the ground up. That’s where Manny came in. He was slated to meet his father by performing an operation on him and purposely getting caught. To reveal himself to Maxamilliano, his father.
A lot has happened since then. Manny naturally grew quite distant with his crew. In private, he contacts Juli who still feels that she was betrayed quite but wants to know why.
Personal goals: Wants to take care of his mother. He understands why she did what she did. But one day he would mind if he just had some money and he could finally go back to his mother and live together.
Fears: Failing the job. Gets really pissed about failure. Hates jump scares. And can’t STAND bees.
