Just to get things started I'd love to give any interested artists a bit of meta backstory about the character. Otherwise if you're just looking for the physical description of the character just skip to the third paragraph! This character is a long-running character in my current DnD campaign. I was inspired to make this character when my DM asked everyone involved with this run to make a character who wasn't whole. The prompt interested me, mostly because I felt like there were obvious ways to interpret it, and less obvious ways. So this campaign started about a year ago, I wanted to have custom art commissioned immediately when it started, but I really can't afford that kind of thing. I'm not one to ever say that online artists should charge less - if anything I find a lot of artists could charge more. All the same, however, I can't afford that kind of thing. A friend informed me about this subreddit and who knows - maybe someone will feel some kind of inspiration or maybe not! Either way, I'm smiling - here is the information.
So let's start with the basics. Her name is Yara and for any of you DnD fans out there, she is an Aasimar Warlock. Aasimar are a race of people who descended from angels themselves. Yara, in this instance has descended from divine beings, but the townsfolk around her did not take that all too well. See, her town itself has always held incredibly monotheistic values - instead of worshiping a pantheon like most others do in the surrounding regions they have become something of a cult surrounded by one god. The village is on a fishing coast, and as such they only worship a lord of the ocean. Now, in DnD Warlock's have something called Patrons. They are gods or otherwise deities that have chosen to form a pact with the Warlock. In Yara's instance it is a god of Fire and purification through flames. She is a direct statement against everything the townsfolk believe in. Aasimar are typically good natured as they descend from such divine beings. However, Yara's fiery patron is completely ambivalent when it comes to mortal morality. As such, when she is burned at the pyre for her transgressions against the villages god, Yara is spared by her patron - but only if she cuts down the non-believers.
All this to say, Yara is not only troubled - but deeply confused about her place in all of this. Her angel ancestors never reached out to the girl - nor did they intervene on the villagers behalf. As such she has simply wandered from small village to small village - using her abilities offered to her by her patron in order to solve problems most wouldn't get involved with.
As far as physical description goes - I don't want to give any potential artist too much detail, feel free to put your spin on her! But some basics here: She has soft features, ones that belie a melancholy that pervades the expression she typically wears. Her hair is golden with tinges of crimson, when in combat one would be remiss to miss the similarities it has to a soft flame. Her eyes are perhaps her most striking feature, her rounded face and toned but diminutive body shape are in complete contrast to them. They are sharp and piercing, in a way that one would typically avoid direct eye contact. They are the eyes of a soldier, of a veteran, someone who has sacrificed everything, or someone who has nothing.
She typically wears patched up clothing, not having the money nor the care for fine clothes. It would be incredibly rare to find the girl without at least a few patches of dirt, or tears in her leathers. She carried only a single rapier on her side and when it is drawn it bears flames that lick the air just above the blade. It itself is not an overly ornate affair, rather it looks simple - almost overly so. Perhaps that also best describes Yara - she is not one for flair. Rather, she is just trying to get through the night.
And that's everything! I hope I've made some kind of image in your head, even if you don't end up drawing my character specifically! Artistry is something I've aspired to accomplish, but unfortunately do to tremors I get in my arms it is incredibly difficult to practice in a meaningful way. Typing is quite a bit easier so I've worked on my writing instead. All this to say, I would be so humbled if anyone felt that this character was worth their time to draw. Thank you so much for your time reading this and I hope you have a great day!
