What do you expect from magick and three motivational spells
Post Body

First, what do you expect from magick? There's varying degrees of effectiveness for different people. Even so, if you're expecting to get the euphoria meth gives you by doing a ritual while listening to binaural beats, you got another thing coming. To expand on that, a lot of magick is made explicitly for highly spiritual people, and to clarify, I define spirituality as the practices that improve your character, skillfulness, willpower, socialization, and fluidity of your framework.

The big one I'm concerned with in this moment, though, is the fluidity of your mental reality. Why? Because the wider the range of the possibilities that you can consider plausible, the more capable you will be at manifesting the faith needed to actualize the effects of magick. So, a person that has perhaps done a lot of spiritual work to the point that they could go be a serious flat-earther will be more receptive to various spells, rituals, techniques, etc.

Thus, we come to a confession; over the years, I've had a bitch of a time getting some spells to work that I can logically deduce should work. As a result, I've relegated myself to the magick that worked for me, with my big, robotic math brain. But, even so, I can give you a few examples of magick that I've used over the years. How about three techniques to impact your motivation? Sounds good to me!

The Egg Timer

This one's simple. Not motivated to get started? Get an egg timer and set it to ten minutes from now. It's fucking stupid, but I used to have to do this to get my ass writing a decade ago. It actually does have a biomechanical effect that spurs action.

When you're anticipating that timer to go off, your attention is partially coordinated to be on the timer. This primes your dopamine so when it does go off, you get a slight burst of motivation to get shit done. As such, it actually works better on people with ADHD, which I suspect I have but I've never been diagnosed because I got too many brain problems and the free clinic I go to won't even test me.

Nonetheless, this trick is actually more effective if you use video game noises, especially if you game in any regularity. Video games are designed to make you want to engage with the thing making beeps and boops, so if there's a notable sound effect from a game you like, record it and start using it to propel your productivity. This will also give you the passive association with something pleasant, which has a systemic effect on the brain, which leads us to our next technique.

Symbols of Power

Love.

I just triggered a cascade of neurons in your head. All the associated neural pathways with the task of processing the word "love" just got strengthened. It doesn't seem like much, but remember for the want of a nail, the shoe was lost, which lost the horse, which lost the rider, which lost the battle, which lost the kingdom. Because neurons have a firing threshold, that means if your neuron is one molecule short of its activation potential, it won't fire.

Give yourself the most opportunity to be positively motivated by crafting your home into a high energy bastion of motivational, inspirational, and otherwise positive or pleasant symbols. But, don't just go out and get a thousand things to redecorate your house. Make it a gradual transition of creating meaningful focal points that you personally make, because then you're putting energy into them.

Ritualistic gazing and meditation on symbols of power can create a positive feedback cycle of perceived energy in the mind where you gradually build motivation over time. Let the waves of the energy you fostered wash over you and carry you to your task at hand. And if a particular symbol weakens over time through overexposure, shake things up and give yourself fresh stimuli.

Lastly, since you know this magick now, it's your duty to use it for good. Start putting symbols of power up all over in public. I'm not saying do any illegal graffiti, although that works, but really some chalk magick or putting up posters with positive messages or imagery will help raise the vibrations of the area. The butterfly effect is real; if you consciously move one molecule in someone's brain, that could be the one fucking molecule they needed three weeks later to quit drinking, or ask their crush out, or talk themselves out of jumping.

The Flow Carryover

So the last two were magick I inherited. Someone else came up with them. I'm just passing them on. But, this one's mine, and I'm quite proud of it. Basically, it's inducing a flow state through some active meditation and letting it carry you into your task. It's a major part that I've made it this far in life as I have, and so it gives me good feels to pass this one on, too.

I originally discovered this trick when I was a maladaptive daydreamer. Pacing. So much damn pacing. And when I wasn't doing that, I was addicted to video games, so I had no motivation to write. But, one day I noticed that I was more likely to open up my Word documents immediately after my morning coffee and pacing sessions. So, I experimented and that produced results.

As stated, I just loved to pace and zone out in my imagination. The imagination is really key here, as I've discerned that it was the fact that I was hyperfocusing on what was playing in the movie screen behind my eyes that initially triggered the clarity of the flow state. Later, I would pick up juggling and it did the same thing for me.

My routine was typically to wake up, grab a cup of coffee, and sip on it every few minutes between juggling until it was gone, then I would hop in front of my computer and just start shitting out everything I had been thinking of for the previous thirty to fifty minutes. Then, I would write until I lost focus again, which is when I would juggle for five to fifteen minute spurts while oscillating that with writing. I highly recommend juggling because it is a full brain-body activity, so you're going to be working with a full deck, but really any active meditation works. Experiment and find something better than juggling.
