CMV: Rioting is not democratic and it should stop
Post Body

In lights of recent protests in america, I was debating with my father who doesn't support the BLM protest. He gave me a really interesting perspective and I kinda changed my view on protests. So to explain my bad title :

I fully understand why is BLM protesting, but I don't understand why it can't be peaceful. Police definitely escalated these protests and made them violent. But protesters were blocking roads and some even set buildings/cars on fire. Even before any police force was doing its job. Main reason for a police force is to enforce the law and keep the city safe.

So the police has to disband riots. They are just doing their job. Yes, there a few bad apples, but the same is on the protesters side.

Peaceful protest is democratic and perfectly okay. But if you are blocking traffic, looting (even though I know most of looters are not protesting and just using the chaos to get money) and making your "autonomous region", police has full rights do disband your protest.

And now onto my main point. If BLM wants to change laws, they should just vote for somebody who will change it. If they don't have a representative, just use the money that BLM got from donations and make their own representative. If I am not mistaken, you can vote and run for positions even if you are black or any other minority.

You might argue, that conservatives will win and change nothing, because most people are voting conservatives or democrats that are racist as well. But that's okay. That's democratic. The bigger part of the country wants it stay this way, than it will stay the same. That's what is democratic.

BLM should stop rioting, because this is kinda a "overthrow of the government". The goverment was elected and you want to change the law by force, by blocking roads and looting. That is considered an overthrow. That's not democratic.

Just want to clarify, English is my third language, so there might be a lot of mistakes. I am on mobile so the formatting might be a bit off.

I am not racist and I support BLM and their demands. I just don't support riots. I am welcome for you to change my mind, thank you.
