I believe that music genres such as rap and hip hop lack creativity and intelligence. I find that most music produced today is solely about either sex, money or drugs. I believe that this is uncreative because it is evident that most musicians today have pieces about sex, drugs, and money. I believe that most people simply copy the work of others while putting their own trademarks on it. I think this is uncreative because it shows that they cannot or will not think of a new idea or even topic to write about.

I also believe that this tightly ties in with intelligence. I believe that the way people sing and rap makes them appear idiotic and as horrible role models for children. I believe that no thought is put into most music produced popularly today and that this is the reason for its lack of intelligence.

I understand that there are some great pieces in which the lyrics have meaning, but I am yet to meet anyone who likes either rap or hip hop because of the meaning of lyrics.

I also believe that rap and hip hop songwriters lack skill. I have never heard an example of either of these genres where there is talent above that of someone who had practiced an instrument for a year on anything that is not electronic. I understand that rap requires flow and rhythm, but poetry is the same way, and yet most people dismiss poetry because they think it is foolish, but the only difference I currently see is that there is a beat underneath rap.

I don't want to hold these opinions any more, so please, Reddit, make me understand why popular music is good.
