As a Gen-X Homosexual, I have a deep-seated hate for the word Queer.
As such, I have "reclaimed' the word Fag.
As in, I'm not a Queer. I'm a Fag.
Yet, every time I whip that word out, I get absolutely destroyed for using a word that's so offensive. So hurtful. So wrong.
But...Wait! How is it that it's ok for some people to decide for me what words I'm not allowed to be offended by or not allowed to use. Yet, when I attempt to choose for myself, these same people attempt to gate-keep me.
I've given up the idea of trying to stop others from using the Q word. However, I'll die on the hill of not being told what I'm allowed to be ok with or not.
I invite anyone to attempt to justify this nonsense and Change My View.
F slur means bundle of sticks used to create large fires, q slur doesn't have the same connotation as it only means "different" or "odd". Context decides whether or not one word is worse.
Over time, certain words because worse than others because of the manner in which they were used. Words fall in and out of different states, some words are essentially meaningless because nobody uses them enough to expect everyone to know that word. It doesn't have to be the q slur, it could be invert, it could be sissy, it could be a flopping hand gesture, context is the only thing that makes one word bad and one word not bad.
Homo is short for homosexual, but calling someone a homo is bad even if they are in fact homosexual. Why? Because it's how you say it, it's who is saying it, and why they are saying it. Context.
