Chirin from The Ringing Bell is a sheep whose mother was killed by a wolf. Chirin vowed to get revenge on the wolf by seeking it out, learn its killing techniques, and ultimately use those techniques against the wolf. Chirin managed to get his revenge when he gored the wolf upon his horns. But the other sheep upon seeing his unnatural form refused to let him back in to the flock. In the end, Chirin must wander the earth alone.
Chirin's mindset seems very appealing to me lately. Adopt your enemies' mindset and turn it against them. So what if you become an even bigger monster, at least you've managed to protect the people you love from criminals and extremists seeking to have them killed.
It's a fair price to pay, right?
Despite saving them, Chirin is rejected by his terrified flock and is forced to return to the mountains, now alone. After hallucinating the wolf's return, Chirin laments that he has nowhere left to go, and no one else to love, crying out in sorrow for the wolf to come back.
Doesn't seem like it worked out for ole Chirin
