I’m a freshly-turned 32-year-old who is introverted and forever awkward in the way only bumbling, obsessive scientist types can be. Science and awkwardness aside, I’m a lover of things like thunder storms (snow storms too!), outdoor sports, figure skating, ancient history and folklore/mythology, animals (much better than people), evenings drinking red wine and pretending to wax philosophical, and reading for hours anywhere, anytime. My biggest passion beyond science is writing and I hope one day to write a novel though, at the moment, I have only officially published some short stories. My biggest disinterest is macroeconomics and historical events post-1600 so someone needs to try to convince me to learn that, please.
I’m a bit obsessive about health and I try my best to eat healthy foods and exercise more or less every day because it feels great and also helps me de-stress from my admittedly anxious, over-working ways. That being said, I totally sneak some carrot cake here and there (it’s my favorite) and, sometimes, have a day of lying around playing video or board games. Structurally speaking, I have all my parts and they mostly work well except, occasionally, my left knee twinges while hiking in a way I am certain it did not at 23. I’m short and petite/normal weight with reddish brown hair and dark hazel eyes and my skin tone is such I have to bathe in sunscreen before daring to venture outside on a sunny day. People have called me pretty, but honestly beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Instead, I am happy to exchange photos, but I have to keep a low profile online (because of work, nothing nefarious). I wear a lot of black because it’s classy, always matches, and goes with everything (yes, even navy). My favorite perfumes are Chanel Noir and spicy-type scents if that says anything about me. Oh, and I talk too much.
I’m super happy with where I am at career-wise and am lucky to love what I do and to work on projects which help make the world a cleaner place. I never grew out of my hippy phase – I just made a career out of it ;) My current R&D obsession is microbiology, but I’ve worked in a lot of fields and have what I like to call “research ADHD”. Technically, I’m a doctor, but I never use the title – not even on my business cards. The more I know, the more I realize how much I don’t know and then I start to get very existential about how many things I need to learn before I die and then go read another book to compensate.
A few months ago, I repatriated to the US after a decade-ish of being abroad. Some part of this decision was the collapse of a long-term relationship (never married, no children though) and feeling the need for a ‘fresh start’ – whatever that means. Hence, this post! I have drifted away from many friends I used to have state-side and mortally terrified of just the idea of dating apps. I am definitely having a difficult time finding my place after moving back to a country where a LOT has changed since I left. The fact I work mostly remote isn’t helping with that. On the upside, I’m super flexible about location!
I travel a lot and frequently within North America, but also due to the nature of my work I can’t be abroad often and, so, it would probably be much more difficult to connect with someone not in the US/Canada. That being said as a disclaimer – I never say never.
If any of this tickled your fancy feel free to send me a chat :) Bonus: can chat in and speak 4 languages (English, French, Italian, German).
