My worst fears have come true.
Post Body

On Friday 7/12 in the early morning hours around 3am there was a large building fire in my neighborhood in Seattle causing utility poles to catch fire and melting power/cable/telco/fiber lines. Quantum texted me updates on repair status. The first one was overly optimistic. Ten hours after the fire the local municipal utility replaced one of the utility poles and power was restored. Quantum then gave an update of around 5pm. Shortly after 5pm I got a text saying that service has been restored, but hadn’t. Later in the evening into the early morning hours of 7/13 I noticed bucket trucks belonging to a contractor stringing new communications lines on the poles. I tried once again to reboot my modem but still nothing. I still had my Xfinity modem hooked up as my contract with them is expiring this month. My service with them works. This morning I walked along the street and visually inspected the lines on my side of the street one pole is still charred and the cables that are strung are all melted . How is it that one provider (Xfinity) has their shit together and can accurately say that their service is working, while the other (Quantum) just fixes their service at some local distribution office and assumes every thing is hunky dory downstream and telling affected customers that everything is working while in reality it isn’t. I’m glad I still have my Xfinity service as much as I hate staying with them and will most likely either suspend or cancel my service with Quantum before I’m charged for another month of service on 7/17.
