Why do people handwave Trump away?
I met some people who said that when Trump wrote that maybe we should suspend the constitution, he was actually just joking.
Or when he blatantly says that he would go after his political opponents, he doesn’t really mean it.
Recently, trump said that he wants to prosecute Mike Pence and Liz Cheney, having the latter face a military tribunal. Apparently that’s just hyperbole.
The people I met told me that it’s not about his online posts or his character. In fact, they don’t like his character either. But for them, his policies are the best and that not to take his speeches and posts seriously.
What is the reason behind why people feel this way?
