I just learned about a great initiative that I wanted to share with fellow Central PA redditors.
There is an effort to bring the "Cure Violence" project to Harrisburg. They treat violence as an infectious disease and so use interventions based in epidemiological research. Cure Violence employs interrupters from the community to stop violence, and has had amazing results in other cities in the US (including Baltimore, Chicago and Philadelphia).
They are looking for community partners and supporters to help secure funding and political support. Please PM me if you'd like contact information for the local coordinator of the project.
PSA: I'm not affiliated with Cure Violence, but I just listened to a talk from the person who is spearheading this initiative in Harrisburg and wanted to spread the word!
