My brother (13) is trying to teach me this game

It took me over an hour to finish the first world (with strawberries and a crystal heart though!) I kept forgetting basic mechanics like grabbing the wall and doing a left dash instead of a upleft dash but was somehow accidentally able to execute pixel perfect jumps/spike stuff. (I dont know what this means)
Eventually he started calling falling and dashing "the silly thing" to make me remember it.
...he then did a no death run in under 3 minutes.
And an all strawberry crystal run in 7.25
