The Celeste experience before Farewell existed
Post Body

It's hard to imagine this game without Farewell. It feels like this was the perfect ending to the journey. But I'm sure many of you have been playing it before the DLC came out. So that meant that your only closure would have come from completing the B and C sides, which can still be done in any order, so there isn't a clear grand finale. Sure 7C has a fateful and touching moment talking to Granny before getting the heart, and 8C has Madeline pondering her existence as she falls through the bottom of the screen and comes down from the top before getting the heart, but those were relatively small plot moments we got from that, even if Granny's "Funny how we get attached to the struggle" is an all-timer of a quote and bound to get many a player misty-eyed after such an exhausting screen.

But none of it ties the game together as beautifully as Madeline's quest for the bird in the desperate hopes of reuniting with Granny, who had already passed. And the fact that she actually does reconnect with Granny and they get to have an actual conversation providing real closure, albeit in a dream. Theo's appearance revealing his connection to Granny through his Grandfather who also climbed the mountain and linking it to himself and Madeline also meeting there was also really cool.

And yet there was a time before all that even existed. What was it like to complete the game before Farewell and what were your impressions finding out new DLC dropped (for free, no less), bringing you back in to the game and getting to play through that for the first time? Plus that was right around the time that the transgender flag stirred up all the chatter and Maddie transitioned sometime after. Did all that news unfolding overshadow the fact that the DLC itself (and its ending) was really fucking good content regardless?
