Everything Routers do - How Routers use the Routing Table and ARP Table to forward packets
Post Body

I've just released the latest video in my Networking Fundamentals series. This series will teach you everything you need to understand how packets flow through a Network. And this video is Part 2 of a two-part lesson that illustrates how Routers work:

Part 1 was well received in this community and is available here. I'd recommend starting with Part 1 if you want a more thorough understanding of Routers. But going straight to Part 2 will still provide some value (and you can always circle back to the beginning of the series if you appreciate this teaching style).

In any case, here are all the things you'll learn when watching Part 2:

  • 00:00 - Start
  • 00:19 - Part 1 review
  • 00:57 - Routers have ARP Tables
  • 02:22 - ARP Tables start out Empty
  • 02:55 - Packet from Host A to Host C
  • 09:08 - Response from Host C to Host A
  • 12:14 - Process is identical for Internet Routers
  • 13:48 - Network Fundamentals - Full Course - Details

One of the most common questions that comes up in Job Interviews is Tell me everything that happens when I type "ping 8.8.8.8" into my computer. This is a great interview question that is testing your comprehension of how networking really works.

This video series will help you blow away questions like that. I can not emphasize enough how important the knowledge in this videos are, and how many network engineers I've encountered that don't have a firm grasp of it.
