OSI Model: A Practical Perspective - Networking Fundamentals - Lesson 2
Post Body

Hey friends,

I am releasing the first module of my new course on Networking Fundamentals for free on Youtube. The first module will teach you everything you need to understand the very core of networking: How Data moves through the Internet.

I've just released Lesson 2, which takes a Practical Look at the OSI model:

Part 1 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LkolbURrtTs
Part 2 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0aGqGKrRE0g

This lesson illustrates the specific function of each layer of the OSI model, and how it contributes to the over all goal of moving data between two hosts.

This isn't just a "memorize the OSI model" lesson. This lesson will teach you the underlying concepts of what and why the OSI model actually means. I've taught this lesson to many students over the years and framing the OSI model as I do tends to "make it click" for them.

If you haven't seen the videos prior, I'd recommend starting there. Below is the over all lesson plan for the entire first module:

Networking Fundamentals: Module 1

  1. Network Devices
  2. OSI Model – A Practical Perspective
  3. Everything Hosts do to speak on the Internet
  4. Everything Switches do to facilitate communication
  5. Everything Routers do to facilitate communication
  6. Packet traveling: Host, Switch, Router, Switch, Host
  7. Packet traveling: Host, Router, Switch, Router, Router, Host

Hope you enjoy. As always, any feedback is welcome. =)
