Hey folks,
I released a video last week that talks through how a Router chooses it's best path if multiple paths exist:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PDcwijVC4XE
In the video I talk through the three attributes a Router uses: Route Specificity, Admin Distance, and Metric. But I start by showing you how a Router will load balance across multiple paths if all three of these are the same. Then I tweak each of the above to show you exactly what a Router does at each step.
After explaining and proving the behavior for each attribute above, I ask you two bonus questions based upon adding a particular Static Route (displayed in the video).
- How will the Routing Table of R1 change after adding the Static Route?
- What path will R1 take to get to 9.9.9.129?
Give it a shot. See how you do.
(ps, I just posted the answer video, but before watching it try answering it for yourself!)
Otherwise, hope you enjoy the video =)
