Post Body

prefacing by saying i’m asking for a buddy, i still ride a 2020 ninja 400. he upgraded to his 2005 cbr1000rr in december. he was aware of the killswitch problem with honda cbr’s, especially in the old ones but his is utterly fucked. anytime it’s used and flipped back, he has to press ridiculously hard on it to get it to recognize that the killswitch is deactivated and even then it doesn’t always work. he has to wait and come back to it later. he researched a killswitch delete for his specific bike but couldn’t find one. i thought this would be the best place to ask

haha no it isn’t to make it pop and bang. he doesn’t use the killswitch himself after the first couple times. we’re in a tight riding group though and he lets other riders ride his bike every one in a while and a couple that he let ride it hit the killswitch so he just wants to avoid that problem. for the record, i don’t trust other enough to ride my bike so i don’t lend my own out. that’s just what he does even ill advised

good to know. personally would rather a fix as well, but went to jump the gun on a delete. won’t get the chance to look at it today, but should have plenty of time to take it apart tomorrow. he said sprayed lube just on the pivot point. i wasn’t personally there

i believe it’s got 27,000 (might be wrong, but i know it’s close to 30,000) so it definitely isn’t low mileage. he already sprayed lube and checked wiring so he brought it up to our local sports bike mechanic and he was the first one that mentioned the “issue with honda killswitches” and suggested a delete. not thinking ahead, we didn’t ask exactly how to do the delete so if i can’t find a sure answer here we’ll probably just take it back to him. thanks for your advice though!

thanks man. going to look for it right after we get off work

he doesn’t use it either anymore, but we’re a tight knit group and he isn’t the only one he allows to ride his bike and doesn’t want to risk someone that doesn’t know better hitting the switch and not knowing how to get it going
