I really need help guys, I'm really hoping the good folks of reddit can help me out here. A few months back I adopted a beautiful Persian girl as a playmate for my first cat. She had been previously declawed, and I was told she'd been abandoned at least 5 times in her short life and I didnt think to ask why. Well now I do. She refuses to use the litter box, as in she will defecate in literally any room (especially my kitchen floor) accept for her litter box. Currently Im trying the cage method: I got a giant dog cage big enough for a litter box, food and water, and space enough for her to be comfortable. I kept her in that cage for over 16 hours the other day and felt just terrible (so please don't judge me I already feel like the worst cat dad) but she held it in and when I let her out she went straight to the kitchen to relieve herself. I don't want to be the one to give her up but I also don't want to be that guy who's home reekes of cat piss and shit. I guess I'm asking if my cage method first is ethical and second will it work if I stick to it? I don't want to give her up and Ive been crying about leaving her in that cage so please any advice is truly appreciated.
