I took all the kitties to their yearly trip to the vet this past Saturday and Bitsy has been diagnosed with diabetes. It's been a little overwhelming but I got her started on insulin and the shots are going okay thus far.
Any tips dealing with diabetic cats are welcome! We're starting out with 2 units of insulin a day and I am hoping with a new diet and loosing her extra 3 pounds we can hopefully bring that down and maybe fingers crossed get her off insulin completely.
Her new food is quite expensive, ($18 for 4 pounds of dry, $1.40 per can for wet) so if any one knows of any good meat diet cat food that isn't as expensive as the prescription stuff I got from the vet, that'd be great. I have two other cats and would like to keep them eating the same food just to make life easier, but it's damn expensive plus with all the other costs of caring for a diabetic cat.
tl;dr Looking for tips, advice on feline diabetes. Another photo
