I have treated and fed what appears to be a feral cat for the last 2 weeks but she is extremely aggressive. Is it worth trying to help her more? (She is currently in my garden)

Hi everyone,

I have been feeding a feral cat for a a month or so but recently (two weeks ago) she got a terrible eye infection and a dog bite. I took her to the vet and we treated the infections and she is now 100% healthy and de-flead etc. She has been living in my garden for the last while.

However, I already have two cats who have not been able to go into their garden at the vet’s recommendation (until the infections cleared). We tried to let the cats out on supervision yesterday now that she is healthy but the feral (I will call her Amy) constantly hisses and is violent towards them. She occasionally gets a bit affectionate and rubs herself all over my legs but when I try to pet her, she lets it happen for a few seconds and then hisses and attacks.

Amy constantly growls when we let her inside and hisses at everything. This is really affecting my other cats who now can’t go outside when they want. We also have to be very careful when opening doors etc so she doesn’t come in an attack the cats.

My question is this: is it worth trying with her? She is definitely fully-grown (at least a few years) and we already have 2 cats. She growls and hisses non-stop and only shows brief moments of tameness. Is it fair on my other cats? I don’t want to let Amy back into the street but I honestly don’t know what to do.

Additionally, I live in Mexico City where there are thousand of cats on the street as is and there are no agencies that can help. I’ve already tried but they are frankly already overwhelmed.

What do you recommend? Thanks so much
