Has anyone taken their cat on a long road trip? If so any advice?

Me and my gf will be leaving for a week to visit family, and were originally going to have people come and visit/play/take care of our cat while we were gone, but she actually gets bad anxiety when we are away from home and are thinking about just taking her with us. Any tips/advice/experiences you can share about doing this?
