Dear cat community,
I have a question I need to ask people who own cats. I once had cats as well, but that was about 10 years ago... and the question is specifically about baby cats, we hadn't had ones for roughly 15 years.
That being said: I want to know how I can find out if cats have owners. The situation is that my husband and me discovered that there are three cats (mother 2 babies) in our garden. They have visited us for about a week now, and I can see them all day long, starting at about 8am, until idk as we don't look out to them in the evening and night. They play in the garden, always at the same spot. When we try to approach them they shy away, which is probably perfectly normal. Both kittens had some issues with their eyes (one glued... dunno what it's called) a few days ago, and my husband said his family brought the cats to the doc when this happens. That was why we began asking ourselves if the cats might be "homeless". Today I watched them through the window and saw that the mom brought a mouse to play and eat. I honestly can't remember if our cats did that as well. Plus it strikes me as awkward that those little kittens are out so long. I think we kept them in the house for a bit longer... 3 months maybe? Even so, why would they stay in our garden? We live in a very rural area, everyone has their own garden. Why should these cats choose to go to our garden if their owners have their own? Just seems awkward.
We haven't asked the neighbors yet, we don't know them, but I know we should probably ask them. Tgey also have chicken who sometimes wander through our garden as well (the fence is broken coughs).
Any tips how to proceed? How to maybe see if they have owners? :/
Thanks in advance!
