My friend received two kittens from a coworker that she's trying to find homes for. They're 8 weeks old and have their shots. I currently have a 3 year old tuxedo cat that I received from a friend over a year ago after she had to move and couldn't take her with her. I also live in a one bedroom 750 sq. foot apartment. My current cat, Raven, hasn't been around other cats as long as I've had her. The only other animal she's been around has been my friends Jack Russell that I watch for her on Sundays. At first she freaked out, but has calmed down lately. She generally just ignores the dog unless she's getting bothered by the dog and she'll hiss and find a hiding place.
My friend keeps telling me to get another cat for Raven to have something to do while I'm gone at work. I was against the idea, but I'm beginning to think that I should. My concern is space. I don't know if my place is too small for two cats. Also, how do I introduce the two especially since Raven is so skittish around the dog. Is that behavior typical and would it transfer to a kitten or would she recognize it as another cat and treat him differently?
Any tips and suggestions for adopting a new kitten into my situation would be appreciated. Thanks!
P.S. Raven is fixed and if I end up adopting the new guy, he will be as well.
