Alfie has been our furry family member for 6 years, and has been through so much with us. He had been me and my wife since before we even got engaged, saw us move across the country when I got out of the military, moved from apartment to apartment until we could finally afford a house with enough space for all 3 of our animals to exist easily (2 cats, 1 dog).
We woke up Sunday morning and he suddenly couldn't use his back legs. We drove him to an emergency vet that was 45 minutes away, and by the time we got there I could hear fluid building in his lungs. Within 15 minutes of us landing there, we were informed by the vet that he has CHF and developed cardiomyopthy, which lead to a clot being thrown into his lower limbs. He had no pulses in his back limbs, and he was going into flash pulmonary edema. We had no choice but to agree to euthanasia. Our little boy died in my wife's arms, after the meds were pushed. Smooth and painless, we were so lucky to have got him there before he was drowning in his own fluids. 40 minutes after we arrived, we were walking in a daze, eyes swollen and red to the parking lot with an empty cat carrier. He was going to be cremated and would recieve a call when his reains were to be collected. No warning signs gave us any clue he was sick, until it was too late. He died so young. I love my boy, and I'll miss him dearly. Love on your cats for me tonight, they deserve all the pets they can get.
