New carpet, cat destroying it. Tried everything

Hello Reddit.
Calling out in a desperate time.
Got a 2 year old ginge who loves to claw carpet.
I’ve tried deterrent fragrance sprays, scratching posts, cardboard scratching mats, expensive cat scratching trees etc.
My partner and I recently built a new house, and we’ve only been here a week and he has started shredding the carpet.
Was thinking of going to the vet to ask about some claw-pads or something.
Yes, I know this a natural behaviour for cats etc.
Any and all tips welcome.
