So my former feral (I’ve had her as a house cat for 7 years now) flipped out on me tonight & in the ensuing effort to get her out of my bedroom, she bit me several times & I have several severe scratches. She’s indoor/outdoor but she’s not up to date on her shots. I know, very irresponsible of me. She never leaves the backyard, doesn’t seem to realize she can but she has tangled with a couple of neighborhood strays.
She has never been aggressive with me, I have no idea what set her off. I have her confined in a large crate because I’m not going through rabies shots. She will be either taken to animal control for euthanasia or for them to observe her. Regardless, she’s not coming back. I love her but I can’t risk her doing this again to me or my dog.
Should I go to the ER to get antibiotics or will urgent care treat something like this? Or just wait and see, do first aid at home? She bit me several times, broke the skin in addition to the scratches.
I’m kind of at a loss. I have a friend who spent a week in the hospital from a feral bite. This cat tolerates my dogs possessiveness of me, sleeps on my pillow, even when I’m doing something she doesn’t like, she’s only ever gently nipped me. All I did is get up to go to the bathroom & come back. I was getting back in bed, she freaked out, tried to go out the closed window. She got trapped behind the tv and I stupidly grabbed her. Then she went wildcat on me. I tried covering her with a blanket to get her out of my bedroom, I could only get a hold of her leg & she took off. I was afraid she went back in the bedroom. Finally found her & put her in a crate.
