A little background: Around July of last year I had a friend of a friend surrender their 4 year old cat and I took her and everyday I’m so glad I did! When I got her though I noticed that she was pretty big for a domestic cat. She was around 20lb (give or take). After she got accustomed to me and her new home I started putting her on a very soft “diet”. A little shy of or exactly 1/3 cup of dry food in the morning and the same for the evening, plus treats usually every other day. Nothing too strict. I’m thinking of switching her to wet food soon cause I heard that’s helpful. She’s also indoor and outdoor (but only for about an hour or 2 a day) but she loves walking the neighborhood and climbing so she can be pretty active! She’s definitely lost a little weight but not much. She’s in between 17-18lb now and still pretty big. I looove her chunkiness but my main concern is just her happiness and health. She so happy when she goes outside and is stilll pretty active but I don’t want her to have trouble moving in the near future and have to receive insulin shots. I had a friend who’s cat became diabetic later on in her life and she had a much harder time getting around than other older cats. She also hated getting her shots and was always scared of it so it was a whole process trying to give the to her. I’ve looked into some vet approved homemade recipes but most of them involve grain. I’m try to stay away from that cause I know it can cause weight gain BUT I don’t want to deprive her of basic nutrition or her food happiness. I’m more than happy and ready to make homemade recipes (preferably cooked but I’m open to raw) if you guys have any in mind or if you have somewhat budget friendly food brands you recommend please share them!
