Hi all!
I got my first ever cat two months ago! He's a 11 month old kitten and things are generally going great - he's an excellent lockdown companion and generally a sweet boy.
One issue I have is that - almost daily - he randomly gets into this headspace where he's scared of me. I see all the standard signs, back arched, tail pointing down and if I move towards him he BOOKS IT to his hiding spot under the bed. Usually I go down there and give him pets and coax him back to normal. Sometimes it's a mix where he gets in this mood and is running around like crazy (this seems like zoomies) but when seems scared of me, I get worried. It's almost like he forgets who I am so I have to slowly approach, let him sniff me, and then pet him to calm him down.
So two major questions:
Is this just zoomies? and if yes (or even if not) am I handling it ok?
Background: he was rescued at ~7 months and taken to a shelter briefly and then to a kitten cafe (where I found him!). And, in terms of energy, he has a bunch of toys that he can play with and I try to give him about 45 mins throughout the day of play sessions plus we do some daily training.
