My boyfriend and I got our kitten Teddy at 8 weeks old, and everything has been going well. He’s hitting milestones, gaining weight, eating well, etc. when he was smaller and tried to bite or scratch we were able to redirect him with toys and a lot of play time so it wasn’t really an issue.
Now he has better control of contracting his claws so the scratching isn’t as big of an issue as the biting. His teeth are so sharp and I know he’s teething right now so he’s in pain, but my legs, feet, and arms all have puncture marks from his teeth, and my hands look like they tussled with razor blades. I’ve gone through a ton of antibiotic cream and band aids, which doesn’t bother me but he’s doing it to my housemates and guests that come over.
We’ve tried bitter spray, hot sauce, spraying him with water, time out, vigorous exercise and playing, and ignoring him. He’s resistant to the bitter spray, hot sauce doesn’t deter him, spraying with water helps but not for long (he actually LOVES water and hops in the shower with me), we play for 2 hours straight - even switching toys and he still will go for a body part after a while, time outs & ignoring him don’t work either. He waits out the punishment and does it again. Does anyone have any advice on how to deter and redirect a teething kitten? Or any toys you recommend that are soft for him to bite into or soothe him? I can’t sleep if he’s awake because he will pounce my face in my sleep. Therefore, I don’t get much sleep because of him. He’s bitten my eyelid and I’m currently covering up some nasty bite marks on my nose from him. Any advice would be appreciated!
