Castlevania & Hellsing series, a conversation

I'm curious to know the group's opinion on Castlevania, particularly Alucard, and how it may or may not have somewhat inspired the series Hellsing. The idea of Alucard, in both series, being a vampire or dhampir, being a vampire slayer himself. Sort of a Blade type character study. Seems to be parallels there. Thoughts?
