We inherited this skillet from a humid area. We've never seen a cast steel skillet, let alone one one that rusted out in only wear points like this. (Some of the rust was grainy like sand, some powdery like flour. See picture 4.) We think this may be cast iron with aluminum or nickel coating. We hope someone can help us identify what metal(s) this was made with, and hope we can get recommendations for restoration options. (E.g. If it's aluminum, then vinegar is unsafe?)
The handle has the number 7 on it.
The back reads:
Cast Iron Skillet 7 Griswold Erie, P.A., U.S.A 701 A
