Why would my mechanic play games to NOT use SilverRock?

Post Body

I was upfront that I had an extended warranty. The mechanic said he had dealt with SilverRock before and that they hardly cover anything. He even knew Carvana and SilverRock were the same company. We agreed that I would bring my car in if he at least tried to cover the repair through SilverRock, even if it was denied.

After reviewing the codes, he called me back with a $500 bill. No mention of trying to call SilverRock. I reminded him that he would try to cover the cost with SilverRock and gave him the number to try. 3 hours later I call back and he says he can't get through, he's been on hold for 30 minutes and even disconnected once. I told him I would try calling SilverRock myself.

When calling, I used the options mechanics are supposed to use and immediately got through to someone. I had the SilverRock rep call my shop. I gave it a few and called to see if my shop had heard from SilverRock. This is when all customer service and professionalism went out the window. It was like he was holding back getting super angry but he rudely said, $50 - ready by tomorrow morning.

So why the games over using SilverRock? Does it really matter where the money comes from? Even if SilverRock had denied the repair, I might have shopped the quote with different shops to make sure $500 was the lowest.

I'm trying to figure out what game he was playing. I don't think he ever intended on calling SilverRock. This is a 4.9 star reviewed shop on Google, too!
