Is my boss bullshitting re giving me company equity?

Hi all, I’ve recently been promoted to a senior position at work. As part of the promotion, the CEO has told me that I now have company equity.
I asked if there was any paperwork or proof he could share with me on email - conscious that the company is on the brink of significant investment - however he said there isn’t any paperwork and it’s just ‘acknowledged’.
Am I being finessed here? And does he have an obligation to provide me with proof?
