I currently work at an hourly wage retail job, which I know are typically hellish, but mine is actually great. I'm not resigning due to complaints about the job, but rather because I need to focus on my education and mental health at this time. I want to be as professional as possible and will obviously be giving two weeks notice, but my manager isn't typically in her office in a way I could easily touch base with her. It feels uncomfortable to ask her to step off the floor with me mid-shift, but I don't want to have to quit in front of my co-workers. I thought about texting her to give her a heads up and bringing a formal resignation letter after the fact, but I don't know if that's too unprofessional.
I'm really trying not to burn bridges with the company because I'd love to reapply down the line when my life is more flexible, and I know they'll often re-hire people if they want to come back, as long as they left on good terms. I'm also autistic, which can make it challenging to identify if I'm \operating in a way that lives up to expectations in contexts like this.
Please give me any advice you have!
